Prairie Dawn

by Caitlin Oleson

The bright blessed sun
Casts its maternal gaze
Upon the golden sheaths
And sky-blue flax valleys

Crimson kisses the horizon,
Breathing life into otherwise
Dull and dreary plains

Every dip and hilltop
Is washed pure with the nurturing
Light of a thousand, united souls
Meshing together in the sacred flame
That we call a sun

This light rises majestically up from the curves
Of the magnificent trees
Who forever reach for the unattainable
Delight of dawn's first sweet kiss

The beauty of rural nature can be shared with
Any and all who do not refuse to look.
