willow creek

by Robin Enns

just a few miles
        to the east
   under a bridge
 are wild roses
      pastel bright pink
    in sprays of bushes
  beside willow creek
 and an gnarled old soul
       of an oak stump

the once proud oaktrunk
      lies twisted
but connected now
        to the stump are branches
       trailing in the willow creek
    and life in strong
      new limbs
   six or seven feet tall

just a few miles
        to the east
    beside a bridge
 are bright oak green
      living leaves
   with pink wildroses
  blessing this old
      renewing soul
    rooted in water
  and tobacco now

   and the gift of
  a thought of
        freedom to know
   and to feel their
        own
    true hearts

just a few miles
        to the east
   is a bridge
      and wild willow
    roses
  and an old soul oak
      and a gift
    of a thought
    of
        love
