Adrian de Hoog graduated from Brandon College in 1967 He undertook graduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan and Oxford, obtaining a D.Phil from the latter in 1974 (in the History and Philosophy of Science). After Oxford, he began a thirty year career as a Canadian diplomat. During his tenure at Foreign Affairs he was engaged in work on "development assistance, nuclear non-proliferation, the global environment, and international economic topics pursued in for a such as the OECD and the G-7." He retired from Foreign affairs in 2004. Adrian de Hoog was Canada's Consul-General in Berlin when the Berlin wall came down. Berlin in the early 1990s provides the backdrop for his first novel, The Berlin Assignment published by Breakwater Books.
