James Ehnes (accompanied in the photo by Don Henry) began violin studies at the age of four, at age nine he became a protégé of the noted Canadian violinist Francis Chaplin of the Brandon University School of Music. A graduate of the The Juilliard School he has developed an international reputation as a concert performer. He is also a prolific and award winning recording artist with 21 recordings as of 2008. A few of his awards: a Juno for Classical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble or Soloist(s) with Large Ensemble Accompaniment for Mozart: Violin Concerti - James Ehnes/ Mozart Anniversary Orchestra CBC (2007); a Grammy in Best Instrumental Soloist(s) Performance (with Orchestra) category for his Barber/Korngold/Walton: Violin Concertos album (2008).
